Nature, Adventure and Heritage in Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah has long been known as a vacation getaway where tranquil beaches meet soaring mountains and vast deserts stretch infinitely.
Complementing this is a host of attractions rooted in not only the emirate’s nature, but also its identity, history and culture. Below, we take a look at the diverse range of activities on offer in Ras Al Khaimah.

Nature

The emirate’s natural beauty is perhaps its greatest attraction.

Along its pristine coastline, its visitors can unwind on golden beaches or dive into an array of water sports — kayaking, jet-skiing, snorkelling and much more in crystal-clear waters.
For those drawn to the mystical desert dunes, unforgettable experiences range from thrilling dune-bashing and camel rides to lavish feasts and overnight stays beneath the stars in luxury camps.

Verdant mangrove forests on the coastline add yet another dimension to Ras Al Khaimah’s landscape, providing serene sanctuaries for kayaking, animal-spotting and reconnecting with nature.

Adventure

Towering above the emirate is one of nature’s most arresting offerings here — the rugged Hajar Mountains, home to Jebel Jais, the U.A.E.’s highest point. This is arguably the beating heart of Ras Al Khaimah’s adventure tourism. The world’s longest zip line, breathtaking hiking trails, exhilarating paragliding and much more draw visitors in their droves. Also nestled within this dramatic landscape is the Bear Grylls Explorers Camp. Curated by the celebrated adventurer himself, this is the region’s first and only outdoor survival experience.

Culture and History

With a history stretching back over 7000 years and archaeological findings dating as far back as 5000 BCE, Ras Al Khaimah’s past has also been shaped by its nature.

The emirate is dotted with forts, castles and watchtowers that tell stories of resilience and heritage. Among these, Dhayah Fort stands as a national treasure. It is the U.A.E.’s only remaining hilltop fort and part of UNESCO’s World Heritage Tentative List. Perched above a date-palm oasis with a history that goes as far back as 2000-1300 BCE, Dhayah Fort witnessed the historic 1819 battle between the Qawasim tribes and British forces, symbolising the Ras Al Khaimah’s enduring spirit.
